Accident and Emergency Units

Emergency Units are the first and often only, point of contact the public has with a hospital. Thus, conclusions about the hospital are often drawn from the experience the public has at these facilities. Precise clinical decisions, customer service and medical excellence are therefore not an option in an Emergency Unit – they are a necessity.

Traditionally, Emergency Units (EU’s) in private hospitals have been run by General Practitioners with varying degrees of training and competence. Larger units have advice and services from other on call Specialists. However, the frontline service has been mostly provided by Medical Practitioners who are commonly out of their depth in terms of the clinical problems that present to the Emergency Unit.

Since the registration of Emergency Medicine as a Specialist discipline in South Africa in mid 2005, this is changing.

Acute Care Consulting provides access to Specialist Emergency Physicians at the Emergency Unit – either by employment in the unit itself, or through availability for advice and support telephonically, or through our optional tele-medicine program.

In an environment as demanding as an Emergency Unit, hospitals can no longer afford to settle for second best. ACC ensures you don’t have to.
